I'd like to welcome you to my brand-new blog! I've been thinking about blogging about my pieces, because I am so very proud of each of them, and realize that *you* don't get to see what they start as and what they become, and that's part of my favorite part of this gig!
I plan to "back-blog" some of my older pieces, and then write a post every time I finish a new one!
To start us off, I'll show you the 'before' and 'after' images from my first professional house portraits... this are literally the first pieces I did in watercolor and ink, and the first ones I was paid for! I'd done three other house portraits before this, one using watercolors and watercolor pencil (I was NOT a fan) and another with just watercolor - it was beautiful, but not quite my happy spot, and a happy experiment I don't plan to repeat with alcohol inks.
The first house needed a bit of editing... I was given 4 photos and asked to remove the tree out front.
And this is what I came up with:
Then I was asked to do their second house! From this:
And thus began my house-portrait days, during which I "filled in the gaps" with base sign pieces. Three years later, I published We Call Them Home: A Collection of Marine Corps Watercolors which is available in the shop, and I'm still doing commissions - of signs, buildings, equipment, all sorts of fun stuff!! But this? This is where I began as a professional, and I am amazed at how much I have grown as an artist. I can't wait to see where I go.
