Marine Corps War Memorial - Iwo Jima Memorial
The Marine Corps War Memorial is also sometimes referred to as the Iwo Jima Memorial. It is a sculpture by Felix de Weldon which is now part of the public domain. This image was made famous by Joe Rosenthal who took a series of photos when the flag was raised near Mt Suribachi on February 23, 1945. (The copyrights to the original photo are still held by the Associated Press). This graphite and watercolor overlay original is a depiction of the statue near Washington, DC, in Arlington Ridge Park.
